KATHMANDU, The Universal Peace Federation (UPF) and the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) organized a special program in the capital to welcome the historic “Panmunjeom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification of the Korean Peninsula”. The Inter-Korean summit took place on 27th April, on he South Korean side of the joint security area between Moon Jae-in, President of South Korea and Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the North Korea.
Speaking at the program former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal recalls his visit to North Korea during 1993 and 2017. During his first visit former Prime Minister Nepal met with President Kim Il Sung and during his recent visit he met with the President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea as well as Vice Chairman of the Workers Party of Korea Ri Su-yong. Both President Kim and Vice Chairman Ri were part of delegation of Marshall Kim Jong-un at the Inter-Korean Summit 2018.
Former Prime Minister Nepal also recognized the contributions made by the founder of the IAPP /UPF Reverend Dr. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon towards peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula. Former Prime Minister Nepal whole heartedly welcomes the declaration of the Inter-Korean Summit.
Chairman of the IAPP Asia Pacific as well as former Minister Ek Nath Dhakal said that the meeting unanimously welcomes the outcome of the historic Inter-Korean Summit and wishes to realize peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula earliest as possible. Former Minister Dhakal also briefed about the various efforts made by IAPP towards realizing peace in the Peninsula.
Speaking to the press, former Minister for Peace and Reconstruction, Ek Nath Dhakal said “today we gathered here to show our solidarity and support to the people and government of both Korea for the outcome of the historic Panmunjeom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification of the Korean Peninsula. We wish that both Korea will materialize peaceful reunification in accordance with the aspirations of their people”.
North Korean Ambassador to Nepal Kim Yong Hak expressed his happiness for the success of the Summit meeting and thanks international community for giving their solidarity towards it. Ambassador Kim showed his optimistic view for the implementation of Panmunjeom Declaration by the both Korea. Dr. Seuk Il Jing from South Korea said that soon Nepal and United Korea will work together for peace and prosperity.
Mrs. Shova Gyawali, Director of Nepal Republic Media appreciated former Prime Minister Nepal and organizers for taking initiative to reduce tensions and promoting peace in the Korean Peninsula.
Mr. Santosh Paudel, president of FFWPU Nepal welcomed the guests and Ms. Milan Kumari Rajbanshi, secretary of IAPP Nepal gave vote of thanks. Mr. Binod Dangi, Secretary General of UPF Nepal presented flower bouquet to the chief guest former PM Nepal.
Minister for Law and justice Sher Bahadur Tamang, Several Members of the Federal Parliament of Nepal from different parties, former Ministers, former lawmakers, Ambassadors, Professors and representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Federal Parliament Secretariat were among others presence at the meeting.
The UPF is an international organization in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. The “International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace” (IAPP) has been launched as a worldwide association of parliamentarians which provides a forum to bring lawmakers experience and wisdom to bear in the search for solutions to our world’s problems.
